OUR INSPIRATION 

Face in the Mirror Foundation is dedicated to the loving memory of my sister, Charlotte Mae McCracken. She was my friend, a sister who I loved and cherished. Charlotte died of breast cancer in September of 2001. Her amazing spirit and optimistic attitude remained strong throughout the many years she fought the battle of her disease. Her positive nature was ... contagious!

     While I was visiting Charlotte, one day in particular I noticed her appearing emotionally and physically drained. Not really knowing what I could do to help her feel better, I suggested "we play" and make over her face. She said I really couldn't help make her look better, but in her own sweet way, accommodated me.

    Trying to lift her emotionally while having a sister conversation, I applied makeup to her tired face . . . when finished, she became transformed. A "new" sister evolved before my eyes! She saw and felt the change, we were both in our own way...transformed.

    During these special moments, I will never forget what she said to me...these words haunt me yet today: "no one really cares how you look when you're sick"...then she requested that I go on to help others in the way that I had helped her. I made Charlotte that promise, and from that day ... the Face in the Mirror seeds were planted.

    God may have chosen to take Charlotte home, but through our growing number of Face in the Mirror friends, the financial needs shall be supplied. Through the many volunteers who continue to step up to reach out in "sister" love ... her desire is being fulfilled. By changing the "face of cancer, one patient at a time", Charlotte's spirit and her love will continue to "make a difference" in women for generations to come.
