Hospital Updates

Face in the Mirror Volunteers only uses ...pure, botanical, safe cosmetics and skin care products as our primary choice. Our intention is to help nurture and moisturize the skin of the patient with cancer...the chemotherapy and other medications causes very dry and uncomfortable skin conditions, knowing they already have compromised skin we have chosen products which have a calming effect ...the products are given to each patient free, and when the patient needs more we supply that need. Along with the gift of the product, the gentle application to their face, heads, hands and sometimes feet are a welcomed gift to the many who have come to experience our gift of love. Eight out of ten of our female patients request wigs and we are there with one that is chosen with her style choice in mind along with color and length. We are grateful to the people who have donated so that we can change the face of cancer, one patient at a time. We are growing and we continue to encourage your support, without which we will not be able to continue the care of the thousands who need us!

Currently the following hospitals are being visited by our volunteers.

Face in the Mirror volunteers have been pampering hundreds of oncology patients at St Joseph Medical Center for 4 years, with the division All About Us Kids now pampering the young, and paying special attention to the mother of the child for a "pick up" to her appearance as well as her emotional well being. Banner Good Samaritan Hospital partnered with Face in the Mirror in 2008 and we have been privileged to have our volunteers see well over 1,500 patients in their oncology departments throughout the hospital. We have been given an office for our use in the radiation department where we can take the patient for a "private space" after radiation. We are visiting the rooms all week long and have received many heartfelt beautiful compliments from the grateful patient who would have otherwise had a lonely day. The "spa" treatment is the relaxation time they never expect while lying in a hospital bed.

Banner Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa opened it's beautiful new facility to Face in the Mirror in January of 2009 and our volunteers now visit women in the various oncology departments of this hospital. The outreach is growing and we anticipate to be there with our volunteers and pampering 5 days a week in the near future. At the present time, we are visiting 3 days a week.

Hospice of the Valley partnered with Face in the Mirror the first of 2008. At the present time many of the HOV volunteers, after receiving the Face in the Mirror training, are taking that same love and pampering to their female and male patients. There are currently 6 communities in Arizona receiving the Mission of pampering and growing. Phoenix Children's Hospital partnered with Face in the Mirror in our children's outreach All About Us Kids in 2008. There our wonderful volunteers visit the child in their room, play areas, and through out the hospital where children read, or enjoy time away from their beds. Volunteers give each a signature hat of blue, pink or purple, along with a darling All About Us Kids shirt and special toys selected for both boy and girls along with each child receiving a toy to cuddle, a wonderful stuffed animal. Also, along with the child, Face in the Mirror realizes that the mom needs pampering too. So, we take the mom a gift of products and give her a mini facial, hand pampering...and leave her with a big smile along with the child happy "mommie" got to have fun too.

St. Joseph Children's Hospital opened it's arms to our All About Us Kids outreach and we visit each child's room with our toys, animals, shirts, and hats two days a week. Along with the pampering of the caregiver/mom Maricopa Integrated Systems -Maricopa County Children's Hospital has partnered with our All About Us Kids outreach and there our volunteers visit the many children in the Burn Unit as well as the Intensive Care Unit to bring love and a smile to the children and their mom's.

Maricopa County Hospital's Women's Oncology Departments has invited us to continue our work of pampering the woman with cancer, and we will begin in November of 2009.

Banner Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa has just completed a new 260 bed children's hospital named the Cardon's Children Hospital. Our volunteers are getting ready to take our division All About Us Kids to this new facility before year's end of 2009.

Face in the Mirror opened our first out of state branch at Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland in January of 2009. This new division has brought us over 13 volunteers and a beautiful staff of people who work closely with the oncology patients within the hospital to deliver the healing pampering touch to the many who come to their hospital for treatment. With the help from two wonderful people Caitlin Hawthorne and Gerry Baffone, we are building avenues to many other cities on the East Coast where the same pampering of the woman with cancer can be appreciated.

FIM For Men is our newest division and it is getting rave reviews! WE NOW VISIT THE MAN SUFFERING FROM ALL TYPES OF CANCER AT BANNER GOOD SAMARITAN, BANNER DESERT SAMARITAN AND ST. JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER. This outreach is the first of it's type in the US and promises to be a fast growing division of the Face in the Mirror Mission.
